Theodore Kefalopoulos | “Wasted Facades”
This is an ongoing project on fine art architectural images. It is based on the impressions of partially revealing the facades of buildings to emphasize their unseen details in relation to the cast light.
All photographs are captured under broad sunlight, and the post-processing workflow is focused on “molding” the luminance attributes of the frame.
As the light becomes the cardinal element in each image, it is obscured at some parts of the frame, and at other parts, it is enhanced. There are no composite elements in the frames, and the conversion to black and white is an essential process so that the whole frame is perceived as a mixture of elements that interact with light.
Theodore Kefalopoulos is a self-taught fine art photographer and tutor based in Alexandria, Greece.
Starting in 2013 and focusing on black and white fine art photography since 2016, he perceives this photography genre as a way to visually transform ordinary or unconventional subjects. His intention is to place a fine art subject in a completely new environment, thus suggesting a more desirable reality or even reconsidering the definition of reality.
The creative concept for each image is born at the shooting location and is manifested by applying atmosphere-specific post-processing with no compositing involved.
Theodore Kefalopoulos’ activities include participation in international photo exhibitions, creation of fine art books and prints, and he is represented by a fine art gallery in the US. He also runs webinars, group and private courses on location and online, and his works have been featured through numerous interviews and presentations. He is a member of the Royal Photographic Society with the Associate distinction.
