La Danse des Lumières

This is a project I started in 2024, in which I decided to use light painting as my main technique to portray my subjects.

I love the mystery that light-painting creates, a subtle play between the concealed and the discreetly revealed, allowing the magic of light to filter deeply into the soul of emotions. It is called la danse des lumières because I actually make very fluid movements, like a small dance, around my subjects, and the outcome of this dance with a light source is always a surprise; it is literally like applying brushstrokes to a dark canvas, allowing the light to emerge.

In my portraiture work, I am not interested in documenting reality, but in creating a vision of my own.

The Age of Flowers

The Age of Flowers is a Portrait series in which I experiment with a mix of photographic techniques, including long exposure, double exposure, and light painting.

This series explores femininity through stillness and transformation. Figures gently blur as they linger among flowers, suspended between presence and absence, leaving their stories softly unspoken.

Based in Milan, Italy, Olivia Mazzola is a fine art photographer whose work delicately explores themes of beauty, femininity, and the poetry of human emotion. Through refined portraiture and a deeply intuitive use of light, she creates dreamlike imagery where elegance becomes both subject and atmosphere. Her visual language transforms intimate moments into evocative narratives, inviting viewers into a space where vulnerability is a form of strength and softness carries profound emotional depth.

Mazzola’s artistic practice is rooted in a sensitivity to light as an expressive medium. Each image reflects a careful balance between composition and feeling, capturing subjects in states of quiet introspection and grace. Her work often blurs the boundary between reality and imagination, offering a timeless aesthetic that resonates with both contemporary and classical influences.
Mazzola holds a Master’s degree in Photography from the IED – Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan (2019–2021), where she developed her distinctive visual approach and conceptual foundation.

Olivia Mazzola has exhibited internationally in both group and collective exhibitions across Europe and the United States. Her work has been presented in cities such as Milan, Barcelona, Paris, New York, and Montecchio, with notable appearances in exhibitions including Imagenation, the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards Winners Exhibition, and the Minimalist Photography Awards Exhibition.

Her artistic achievements have been widely recognized through numerous prestigious awards. In 2025, she received Second Place in the Portrait/Fine Art category at the International Photography Awards, Third Place (Bronze) at the ND Awards in People: Fashion & Beauty, and was named a finalist for the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize. She has also won the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards and the Pollux Awards, among others, affirming her growing presence in the international fine art photography scene.

Mazzola’s work has been featured in leading publications and platforms, including Vogue, L’Oeil de la Photographie, Flanelle Magazine, and Dehazed Magazine. Her imagery continues to gain recognition for its poetic sensibility and refined aesthetic, positioning her as a distinctive voice in contemporary portrait photography.

Through her practice, Olivia Mazzola constructs a visual universe where light, emotion, and femininity converge—inviting the viewer to experience beauty not as perfection, but as a deeply human and expressive state.
